An Advertis- err, A Review of Lunacid!

This is a bit of a different blog post from usual, but I was so in love with this game I just had to promote it…! Lunacid is one of the best games I’ve ever played on PC!

The game starts up with an outstanding cutscene and a nice character creator that lets you use custom pics, and then you get to the actual gameplay. Instantly the style and the tone of the game are just so strong! The stylized PS1 visuals look striking and unique, and you are hit with a super atmospheric dungeon synth / dark ambient kind of track that carries this kind of somber, hopeful feeling to it. The entire aesthetic is extremely strong throughout the whole game. This carries over to the character designs and monster designs too. The friendly characters in the game all have unique designs, and great care has been taken to make them likable and also have mysterious backstories that you have to dig a bit to figure out.

For example, look at Demi

Lots of care has been put into the other parts of the game as well. There are lots of little things that may surprise you. There is an entire system in the game that makes magic more powerful based on how full the moon is IRL! This is an extremely unique feature for a game; I can’t think of any other game that has done something like this! There are some other things done with the real-time clock, but I won’t spoil them for you.

They explain this in the manual

Did I mention the game has an entire PS1 style manual right out of the 90s? It’s even got the health and safety warnings!

I also have to mention how interesting the magic system is in the game. Spells are given to you through magic rings. It’s got some normal stuff like fireballs and lightning or whatever, but there's also some esoteric stuff like these two examples. When casted on an object, lithomancy will make it roll around on the floor and scream and cry like a baby. Legitimately very unsettling. I guess I should mention the game is a little spooky too. If you couldn’t guess: Corpse Transformation literally just kills you!

The story and the lore of the world are given to you in little bits here and there, and the game often leaves you to draw your own conclusions about things. The choice to deliver the plot like this makes the world more mysterious, and finding out new things is more exciting; there are lots of little things that aren’t even on the wiki or anything yet!

Lunacid offers multiple ways to play as well as different classes you can pick at character creation that change up the gameplay. There's an expansive list of weapons and spells to play around with as well; lots of replayability here!

I strongly urge you to buy Lunacid if you have any interest in it. If you like the dungeon crawling in games like Oblivion or Morrowind, it’s an easy recommendation. The game also runs flawlessly on Steam Deck, fully deck verified!

Give Lunacid a try; it’s is a magical experience that you can take with you into the waking world.
