Why You Should Listen to Fief IV

The 10th of April, 2025

“Oh no, here comes Oshy with more Dungeon Synth…” Yes, I know, I know, but please heed my word this time! As anyone following my antics online will know, for the last month or two, I’ve been listening to Dungeon Synth non-stop; I truly am in my dungeon arc… Perhaps, over these last few months, you’ve heeded my advice and checked out some dungeon synth that I recommended, and maybe you disliked it! There’s nothing wrong with not being into a genre after all, but I’ll still recommend Fief IV to you!

This album is very much unlike other dungeon synth.

Most of the other stuff in the genre is focused on dark settings or dark ambiance, a kind of looming danger vibe, that invokes torchlit passages and misty mountain vistas. If you think of the rest of the genre like that, Fief is like a sunny day, a walk through a peaceful forest. I feel like, because of that, this album has a lot more potential to have mass appeal than the other stuff in the genre.

Sonically, this album uses only acoustic sounds; it’s got a very natural vibe to it. No synth pads here! It’s a lot of strings! The lack of drone or ambiance means this album focuses very heavily on its composition and melody; the end result is a real treat.
