Why You Should Be Excited for Lunacid Tears of the Moon
The 9th of April, 2025
Tears of the Moon comes out soon, only 3 days from now. This is, obviously, an exciting time for a Lunacid fan such as myself. I think Tears of the Moon is going to be extremely interesting. The rumor right now is that it’s a prequel to the main game, but it’s very abnormal in that it’s made in an entirely different engine.
One of the biggest reasons I think this will be super interesting is because it’s been made in a very unconventional game engine.
Certainly, you’ve heard of Fromsoft, the creators of Dark Souls and Elden Ring and various other mega-hit games. It’s little-known these days, but about 25 years ago they released some PC software called Sword of Moonlight; it was a software toolset that allowed you to make your own King’s Field-style dungeon crawler game. This software was exclusive to Japan and this was also before Fromsoft was really famous , so it languished in obscurity. Tears of the Moon is made entirely within this software! I think this will make it an extremely unique game in the scope of other 2025 releases.
The second reason I think Tears of the Moon will be a must-play is because Kira is doubling down on the Dungeon Synth stylings in the OST. Lunacid is already very Dungeon Synth-y, but Kira lists on the store page for the soundtrack that this game’s OST is more lofi and inspired more directly by Dungeon Synth of the 90s and the 2000s. I'm amped!
