The Millennial Mega Mix

The 4th of July, 2025

It’s 2004, an afternoon thunderstorm sounds gently on the horizon. The PS2’s disk drive rumbles and whirrs as the TV speakers sing.

Well, this is a different type of blog, but I want to show off my new playlist.

Much of my 30s has been spent rejecting the sort of nostalgic thinking that so dominated my 20s. I don’t want to spend all my days looking back and never seeing what’s ahead. I did this for a great deal of time over the last decade and in some ways, I’ve gotten my fill. Sometimes it does get frustrating when I’m hanging out with my old friends and they talk jovially about things we did in the past; I want to say to them “we are alive now guys! We can still do things!”

About six years ago, my friend Deli (who I miss greatly) said something along these lines. He said I think too much about the past and ruminate too much on the things that have already happened, and in doing so I’ve devalued the things that are happening right now around me. I’ve been thinking about those words he said to me all those years ago a lot lately. I think he’s very correct!

Of course I’m celebrating this wisdom that was imparted on me by diving into the druggy haze of nostalgia again and dwelling in the past long enough to bring you this pure fire playlist of songs I listened to in years distant! Very shameful, but sometimes we need a hit of that delicious drug to keep us going. Worry not about this brief glimpse into the murky past, my feet are baring me ceaselessly into the future!

Please check out the tunes.

Ok! Now that I've burned my mixtape to a CD-R... I’m gonna go update my Myspace page, maybe play some Flash Games?
