My Top 5 Favorite Games

September 21st 2023

What do people talk about when they have nothing to say? Top 10 lists of course!

This write up will serve two purposes, firstly it's something I'd like to share anyways, but also it's an easy first step in starting my own blog here! I'm trying something new out here, so bare with me! Anyways, on to the list..

5. Mega Man 2

Mega Man 2 is just a blast from front to back, a lot of the game is carried on the back of it's absolutely outstanding soundtrack, but the levels and bosses are extremely fun too. Obviously, the Dr Wily Castle theme is the most well known but there are tons of other tracks in the OST that also totally jam. One of the other things I love about Mega Man 2 is how short it is, it lends it's self to being replayed over and over again and each time I play it, I love it more. I've beaten this game probably 20 times, I'll never get tired of it.

4. Fortnite

This one will come as no surprise to any of my friends. Fortnite's greatest strength is the consistency of it's updates. Epic games is always updating it with new content and features and keeping it fresh, which keeps me coming back to it over and over again. Fortnite also has the great benefit of proper crossplay, and because of this it's the ultimate social game. A great way to kick back and play games with your friends no matter what platform they play on.

3. Mother 2 / Earthbound

I first played this game only in 2016, I was very late to the party.. But man what a game it is! Mother 2 was a very fresh take on the JRPG formula. It has a lovely soundtrack full of SNES charm and fun JRPG gameplay, but it's really carried by it's writing. It's extremely quirky and charming in a way that makes it very enjoyable to play. One of the finest games Nintendo has ever come out with, and with an absolutely stellar ending.

2. Super Mario World

This game is near and dear to my heart. One of my friends gave me a copy of this game when I was in 3rd grade or so, and I've loved it ever since. Super Mario World is like comfort food for me. It's a great game thats always been around. Whenever I'm feeling down I'll play it and be whisked back to those happy childhood days. The game is nearly flawless, each level masterfully crafted by the best stars the industry could provide. The sound track is happy and fun and the graphics are vibrant and cheery. How could you not want to spend time in Super Mario World?

1. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Oblivion was simply the right game at the right time for me. No game has never hit quite like Oblivion has for me. Oblivion offers this vibrant world full of life to the player to just be totally free inside of. I'd never played a game like it before. TES IV just hits it out of the park for me, but most notably the writing for the quests is really fun. All the quest lines have fun concepts and interesting fantasy mechanics asigned to them that keep them fresh and interesting. Theres not a lot of boring "kill 10 bears" style quests in the game, it's always something with a twist. Oblivion has it's lovely soundtrack which really shines in the peaceful moments too. I've spent like 500 hours of my life inside this game and I don't regret it for a second.
